The Royal Yacht Britannia Visitor Centre and Gift Shop floor given new lease of life
Following six years’ of exceptionally heavy traffic, Kährs three-strip Oak Corsica floor, at The Royal Yacht Britannia’s Ocean Terminal Visitor Centre and Gift Shop, has been refurbished. Demonstrating the floor’s longevity, the surface was sanded and sealed by Edinburgh-based flooring contractor, GL Floors. Kährs multi-layered floors can be refurbished three to four times during their life-time, creating an ‘as new’ floor after each renovation.
Located in Edinburgh, Ocean Terminal boasts over 75 stores, bars and restaurants, as well as a 12-screen cinema. Britannia’s Visitor Centre and Gift Shop are situated on the second floor of Ocean Terminal, through which 250,000 visitors access The Royal Yacht Britannia. The refurbishment of the 475 sq metre floor, which was originally laid by GL Floors, was carried out over three consecutive nights.
Derek Miller, Head of Maintenance and Security at The Royal Yacht Britannia commented, "We’re delighted with the Kährs refurbishment which is testament to the floor’s quality and durability. All visitors access and exit the yacht through our Visitor Centre and Gift Shop so the footfall is enormous. Now, following GL Floor’s refurbishment, it looks like a brand new, prestige wood floor once again. "
Harvey Booth, UK Sales Manager added, "There’s still much confusion regarding the various types of flooring available and this project provides a good illustration of the benefits of a quality engineered or multi-layered board. Kährs 15mm product can be refurbished in exactly the same way as a solid product. It also benefits from a stable construction and, as hardwood is used in the surface layer only, it provides an environmentally-friendly option too."
