The right flooring is one of the cornerstones of a beautiful home. It should look good, be comfortable to walk on and functional for daily use. Factors that can influence your choice include appearance, feel, colour, space and care. We offer a broad assortment of floors to suit all tastes and interiors, ranging from warm, natural wood floors to resilient vinyl floors and vinyl-free floors with all the durability and advantages of modern flooring technology.
Floor – walls – ceiling: the three fundamental elements that together create the room’s feel. The interaction between these three surfaces can change the overall impression, depending on the choice of colours, patterns, lighting, etc. The floor creates the room’s base, providing it with weight and character interacting with your furniture and other features, so consider the entire room when choosing. The floor is where fashion and style meet function.
A floor is much more than just something you walk on. Look at it as the foundation of your home, which should work with all other details you add to it. Since you’re the appearance of your floor is more permanent than the colour of the walls or ceiling, you should choose a floor that functions as a base for all furnishings. The appearance of the floor, i.e. the colour, surface, pattern and hardness, can vary a lot between the different flooring materials and choices. So, find out as much as you possibly can about different flooring materials and what they can mean for you in your home. Your floor sets the mood.
Different rooms are used in different ways. Think about how much you walk around your kitchen or how your children play in their rooms. So, questions to ask yourself are where are you planning to install the floor – and how much wear and tear will it be exposed to?
Luxury Vinyl Tiles, or vinyl-free tiles are a more durable option for high traffic areas, while our wood flooring is a beautiful natural material which gives warmth and comfort to any space. Lacquered wood floors are easier to clean and oil, meanwhile, brings out the fine structure and grain of the wood and enhances its natural colour. Kährs Life is a new thin wooden floor which is easy to love and hard to damage – combining real wood with properties closer to that of vinyl floors.
Light, dark or natural? The colour of the floor has a strong impact on how the room is perceived. A general rule is that dark floors “devour” a lot of light, thus creating a warm and cozy atmosphere. A bright floor on the other hand reflects light and creates an impression of space, while a neutral floor colour forms a classic and naturally beautiful background for other design elements in the interior.
The sense of space in a room is affected by the width and length of the flooring planks or tiles, as well as the pattern of a floor. A general rule is to use smaller patterns in smaller rooms and larger patterns in larger rooms. Which means regarding wood flooring 1- or 2-strip floors are in general better suited in a large room while a 3-strip is more suitable in a smaller room. In Luxury Vinyl Tiles we have options of both planks and tiles in a variety of formats to suit any room-size. If you are looking for a bio-based alternative, we also have a collection of vinyl free floors. In the end each rule has its exceptions, so always choose what feels right for your room.
Clean, calm and elegant – or rustic, rich in patina, knots and cracks? Kährs offers a selection of different gradings, each with a unique character. For wood floors the grading depends on which part of the log is used when producing individual boards. We also use many types of surface treatments to create a wide diversity of styles. As the wood designs in our Luxury Vinyl Tiles are based upon our knowledge of wood flooring you will find the same variety of grading in these designs as in our wood flooring. We offer both clean and more rustic vinyl and vinyl-free floors with the appearance of wood or stone.

What type of light is there in the room? Natural light, the size of the windows, other lighting and direction of the light, all affect the perception of the floor. The general rule is to install the floor lengthwise towards the window. If the room is long and narrow with windows placed lengthwise, you will have to choose what you feel is more important to accentuate – the shape or light.
Our many design choices mean you can mix and match however you like for interesting creations that suit your tastes but are optimal for each space. Choosing different floors that match is a simple way to create both harmony and variation in your home. You could, for instance, choose a 1-strip wood floor for the living room and its 3-strip equivalent for the bedroom thereby creating a continuity. Choosing matching mouldings and skirtings will further enhance the sense of unity. Or if you are after another effect a Luxury Vinyl Tile floor in stone design can be mixed and matched with a wood floor or a Luxury Tile floor in a wood design.
Our floors are durable and easy to keep clean. With proper maintenance, your floor will retain its beauty for years to come. Kährs provides a broad range of maintenance and repair products. For wood flooring it is worth bearing in mind that oiled floors demand more maintenance than lacquered ones. Light-stained and light-coloured species of wood are also more sensitive to wear-and-tear than dark ones.
Kährs Luxury Vinyl Tiles have a wear-resistant surface protecting against both nicks and scratches, and the vinyl floors are water-tight and prevents stains from, for example, food spills. Just make sure you clean it – which is incredibly easy. The same goes for our Luxury Vinyl-free Tiles.
Disregarding which floor you choose - with easy care and maintenance you’ll maintain a beautiful and practical floor for many years.
