Grading of wood floors and floors with wood design

Our floors are sorted into several different grades, each with a unique character. For our wood floors the design feature depends on which part of the log is used, whereas for our Luxury Tiles the wood-design is based on our wood floors thereby also having different grades.

Combining nature and design, from natural graining and colour variations, to gnarls and knots, the character of the wood or wood-design is just as important for the overall look as the design of a plank.

Grading of wood floors

The grading of our wood floors goes from our cleanest boards with small variations, to very rustic floors with dramatic cracks and knots with a wide variety of colour and hues.

These floors are produced from our cleanest boards; i.e. from planks with a uniform appearance with small variations in grain, may contain small knots.

The floors with this grading are characterized by subtle variations in colour, tone and pattern, may contain small knots.

The Lively floors feature dramatic graining, gnarls and knots. They boast greater colour variations and have a more lively, rustic character.

These floors are made from boards with knots and cracks that give them a both lively and dramatic, yet warm character. They feature a variety of colour tones.

If you want your floor to make a really strong impression, choose an Expressive floor. These are made from boards with dramatic cracks and powerful knots and with a wide variety of colour tones.

Grading of wood-designs in luxury vinyl flooring

We have applied our long experience and expertise of working with wood to perfectly recreate what nature has designed in the wood-designs found in our range of Luxury Tiles.  This means that one will find a variety of grading also in our collections of luxury vinyl flooring, as well as in our vinyl-free flooring - from more rustic and lively wood-designs to calmer and more even designs. We also offer our Luxury Tiles in a variety of stone designs, which you can find here.

Nordic Classic Collection

A more rustic wood-design with knots and cracks reflecting the natural variations found in wood of a more expressive grade.

Nature Collection

With maintained contrast, the wood-design in this Luxury Tiles collection mirrors a wood grade with subtle variations in colours and hues with a few knots.

Breeze Collection

Breeze Collection – a calm wood-design, with still some very subtle variations in hues but with next to no knots.

Board patterns on our floors

Kährs produces floors in many different styles and designs with many different lengths, widths, and patterns to help you achieve a certain interior design feature. Full plank, 2- or 3-strip floor or a patterned parquet styled floor - we have a wide range of engineered wooden floors and Luxury Tiles enabling you to choose the perfect design for your interior.

The surface layer of every plank floor board is sawn from a single piece of wood. The natural appearance of the wood, including knots, colour variations and grain, is reflected in this. However, for some of our plank floor collections, we have selected wood that offers little variation in colour and a minimum of knots. Kährs plank flooring is available in several different lengths and widths.

Here the surface layer is two strips' wide. The strips are selected and arranged to give each 2-strip floor its own unique character. Kährs’ 2-strip flooring is available in two options: long strips, and short strips and only in our wood floors and not in our Luxury Tiles.

The surface layer of 3-strip flooring is created by placing three strips of wood of different lengths widthwise and at random. At Kährs, we produce 3-strip wood flooring configurations that enhance its lively expression, but also compositions evoking a calmer feel.

Pattern floors can give a characteristic and sometimes dramatic expression to a room. Kährs provides ready-made Dutch pattern and Chevron pattern boards for easy and quick installation. Kährs Dutch pattern flooring has a unique repeating pattern with three short pieces running lengthwise separated by a perpendicular piece. The Chevron planks are cut to ensure that each “zig” and “zag” are connected at a 45 degree angle.
