Kährs UK has received a 2021 CFJ/CFA Award in the “Flooring in Retail” category for supplying flooring for the Lush flagship store transformation in Liverpool. Following a year-long dialogue between Kährs and Lush to ensure strict ethical and environmental criteria were being met, the Lush team selected Kährs Oak Sevede for their in-store spa and office area.

With 1,380 square meters of retail space - big enough to fit over 9 million bath bombs - the Liverpool branch is the largest Lush store on the planet, housing six spa treatment rooms, a perfume library, a hair lab, and a permanent florist. The nine-month transformation, coordinated by fit-out specialist Portview, was completed in March 2019.

Kährs Oak Sevede was selected for the in-store spa and office area, following a year-long dialogue between Kährs and Lush to ensure strict environmental criteria set by Lush were being met. The agreement of Kährs delivering floors to Lush stores in the UK was finalized and confirmed after a 2018 visit to the Kährs factory in Sweden.

Lush has very high standards of sustainability awareness and strong environmental ethos for all products, involving the whole supply chain:

From buying raw materials to packaging, waste and recycling and reducing the use of energy and water, long pre-qualification processes ensure sustainable certifications and processes. This includes no animal testing, as well as ethical, sustainable and vegetarian sourcing of material.

Following a 2018 visit to the Kährs factory in Nybro, Lush selected Oak Sevede from the Kährs Småland Collection as their floor of choice. All products in this collection contain wood sourced from the Småland forest – just miles away from the Kährs factory.

“We are very happy with our flooring provided by Kährs. It fits perfectly with our beliefs in sustainable sourcing and gives us a beautiful finish. It is easy to install, clean and maintain which is very important for us in a busy retail environment. We especially love that the

floor does not require an adhesive which cuts down on harmful VOC’s associated with many adhesives on the market and means that we are taking responsibility for the end of life of the product.”

- Rosie Goodbourn, Lush Materials Researcher & Creative Buyer

Organised by the Contract Flooring Journal (CFA) and Contract Flooring Association (CFA), the annual awards are voted for by a judging panel consisting of independent industry experts.

With 340 guests attending, the 2021 awards ceremony was held at Coombe Abbey. Several awards were given out in three different sections: Products, Installations, and Special Achievements. All winners will be named in the October edition of Contract Flooring Journal.
